Children's Eye Exams
Children's eye health is important however through our experiences with our involvement with the Glasses For Kids Program where we screen and test up to 1000 kids a term, we have identified that sadly many slip through the cracks.
Children are generally screened by school nurses or doctors however we recommend that kids should start having eye exams from when they are 5 years old to catch or identify any potential risks.
At Blue Star Eyecare our children's exam include:
- Assessment of the health of their eyes.
- Assessment of your child's visual acuity for both distance and near vision and provide correction of any refractive errors.
- Assessment of binocular vision
- Assessment of colour vision
Our focus at Blue Star Eyecare has always been well balanced however due to our experiences and ability to provide sought-after products at a lower price there has been a small shift towards children's eye care.
Glasses for Kids
At an earlier stage 6 years ago, Blue Star Eyecare whilst operating as The Optical Superstore participated in the Glasses For Kids program where we visited Primary Schools in the local area.
Since then Blue Star Eyecare has become its major partner, working along side State School Relief we have visited over 200 schools across Victoria and helping where we can to provide screening, eye tests, spectacles or even simply awareness and promotion of Eye Health in kids today.
The videos below are intended for use by parents of kids who have been tested by optometrists via the Glasses for Kids program. The following exercises are only suggested for the period indicated by the optometrist with the intention the child will be having a follow-up appointment with your local optometrist.
